  1. AUTOMOBILE EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT --

  3. Most travelers do not plan on having an emergency. But
  4. preparation for one--especially in Alaska--is very im-
  5. portant. Keep survival equipment on hand, and be sure
  6. you know how to use it. Take a look at the "car trunk"
  7. display in the Explore Alaska exhibit for suggestions
  8. on what to include in your emergency equipment. Abso-
  9. lute basics include maps, spare tire, flashlight,
  10. shovel, flares, sheath knife, auto repair tools, roll
  11. of electrical tape, water, medical or first-aid kit,
  12. wooden matches in watertight container, wool blankets,
  13. nylon cord, sheet of plastic, dress-to-walk clothing
  14. and boots, dental floss (which can be used for anything
  15. fishing line to tent cord), jumper cables, a quart of
  16. engine oil, pruning saw and/or small axe, tow chain or
  17. cable, spare fan belt and rations. Before you leave,
  18. check all tires for inflaction pressure and general
  19. condition. Check antifreeze, water and battery. If you
  20. think these precautions are too costly or take up too
  21. much room, think about how much your life is worth!
